I Survived Real Estate 2014 Part 1 #406

Christopher Thornberg Joins Bruce Norris on the Real Estate Radio Show #405

The Bruce Norris is joined this week by Christopher Thornberg.  Christopher is the founding partner of Beacon Economics and widely considered to be one of California’s leading economists.  He is an expert in economic forecasting, regional economies, labor markets, economic policy, and industry and real estate analysis.  He was one of the earliest and most adamant predictors of the subprime mortgage market collapse and of the global economic recession that followed in 2008.  Dr. Thornberg serves on the advisory boards of Paulson and Company Inc., one of Wall Street’s leading hedge funds, and of the Los Angeles area Chamber of Commerce.  In Southern California’s largest not-for-profit business federation between 2008 and 2012, he served as Chief Economic Advisor to the California State Controller’s Office and was chair of controller John Chang’s Council of Economic Advisors.  Dr. Thornberg holds a PhD in business economics from the Anderson School of UCLA and a B.S. in Business Administration from the state university of New York, Buffalo. Bruce and Christopher discuss issues in the global economy, particularly China, its affect on the United States, interest rates and exchange rates, the Japanese real estate boom, the winding down of Quantitative Easing efforts, retirement pension plans, the lack of volume in California real estate sales, the ownership rate, and much, much more on this week's real estate radio show and podcast.

Bruce Norris is joined this week by Dave Cogdill.  Dave is a former senator who is now president and CEO of the California Building Industry Association, a position he has served in since 2013.  Prior to serving on this board, Dave was the county assessor for Stanislaus from 2011-2013.  He also served as a commissioner on the California Water Commission.  He was also the chairman for the Maddy Institute at Fresno State University after departing from Legislature.  During his years in office, Dave worked a lot with leaders to resolve issue relating to rural, healthcare, and education.  For his service he has received several awards including the Prestigious Profiles and Courage Award from the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. Bruce Norris is joined this week by Bill Cosgrove.  Bill is the chairman elect of the Mortgage Bankers Association.  He began his career in the mortgage banking industry in 1986 as a loan officer and has served in many positions for the Mortgage Bankers Association.  This includes the president of the Ohio MBA from 2007-2008.  On October 19, Bill will officially be sworn in as the chairman of the Mortgage Bankers Association.
