On Friday, September 22, the Norris Group proudly presents its 10th annual award-winning black tie event I Survived Real Estate. An incredible lineup of industry experts will join Bruce Norris to discuss perplexing industry trends, head-scratching legislation, and opportunities emerging for real estate professionals. All proceeds from the event benefit Make a Wish and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This week is Part 1 of our weekly rebroadcast of I Survived Real Estate 2017. Aaron Norris opened by thanking everyone from the Norris Group for helping with the event: Robyn, Vickie, Craig, Holly, Donna, Joey, Don, Mike, and Rich. This was the tenth year for I Survived Real Estate, and Aaron had been reminiscing by looking at pictures going back to 2008 when they did not hire a professional photographer. They launched the event during the real estate recession with three goals in mind: invite friends throughout the real estate industry to celebrate the work they do, even during rough times, invite thought leaders from the industry to share their insights on what lies ahead, and to raise money for charity.

This week's broadcast is part 1 of I Survived Real Estate 2017. Find out the purpose of I Survived Real Estate, how many years it has been going on, how much they have raised over the years, what charities benefitted from the event, how one of them came to be, the wish that Make a Wish granted this year, what their plans are for the future, and much more on this week's Norris Group real estate radio show and podcast.

In a role reversal, Aaron Norris is joined this week by his own dad and the Norris Group’s very own Bruce Norris. They received a lot of calls and emails asking them about Florida, and they assured everyone that Doug Duncan, Peter Fortunato, and John Schaub had some property damage but are doing ok. Bruce said he built his Florida project to the spec of knowing this could happen. Leesburg has probably not seen a hurricane in 100 years that was really a direct hit. The eye went directly over them, and one roof was hit by a jagged object. Outside of this, they have very little damage. Part of this came from his experience with Hurricane Andrew where he looked at the survivability of different types of construction. This included different types of construction including manufactured homes versus stick built or concrete.

Bruce and Aaron discuss the repercussions from Hurricane's Irma and Harvey, the difference between the two when it came to the type of damage, Bruce's job after Hurricane Andrew to help put things together, the main issue in Florida regarding flood insurance, whether California could see a decline in contractors, Florida's current quadrant, and much more on this week's Norris Group real estate radio show and podcast.
